PB Racing had its first race in the British Endurance Championship with a newly purchased Porsche 911 Cup Car at the Silverstone GP Circuit. We just managed to get the car ready after frantic days at the workshop last week.
The Test Day on Friday was characterised by red flags throughout the day and a very wet afternoon, so little time for our two drivers Peter and Markus to practice and get to know the car. Starting in Class C on Saturday, we had to compete with two Ferraris, two other Porsche Cup Cars and a BMW.
Markus qualified a sensational second overall and first in class, so Peter started for the first time in his Endurance career on the front row (behind a Ferrari 488 Challenge). Having only practiced for 20 laps or so he very quickly got the hang of the new car and kept surprising us by overtaking two Ferraris (one in Class B) and even handing the car over to Markus leading the entire field.
A long pitstop (to refuel the car, we didnt have time to install the fast fuelling system before the race) moved us back to 3rd in Class C and 9th overall; with Markus then putting best lap time after best lap time in and moving the team back to 1st in Class C and 5th overall. On top of this, Peter received the ‘Outstanding Achievement of the Weekend Award’ for his courageous stint. A very encouraging and rewarding weekend for us all and we are looking forward even more now to the next five races.
